Artificer and Saint start with a Karma cap of 5.Visiting an Echo resets the cycle and, if met below the Karma cap, sets Karma to 5. An Expedition fails if Slugcat dies at 1 Karma without Karma Flower protection. To progress, the player must complete the tasks on their list. Inside the shelter are starting items the player chose. On the start of an Expedition, Slugcat wakes with 2 Karma in a random Shelter anywhere in the world that exists at their point in the timeline. Quests and missions reward the player with perks and perk capacity, burdens, and music tracks that can be played via the in-game Jukebox or set as the main menu theme for Expedition mode. Missions are pre-made Expeditions for each Slugcat, with most settings already configured. The player is also tasked with completing 75 additional quests throughout multiple Expeditions that require specific conditions to be met, such as reaching a certain level or completing Expeditions as a specific Slugcat. This makes it difficult, but still possible, to complete an Expedition as an entirely different Slugcat alone, if on ‘’’easy mode’’’ and Player 1 is killed at the beginning of each cycle.Ĭompleting Challenges rewards the players with points, allowing them to level up. Additionally, Player 1 is locked to the Slugcat that started the Expedition. Each Slugcat must have completed their campaign to be selectable in Expedition Jolly Co-Op, even if they are selectable within story mode Jolly Co-Op. Jolly Co-Op is possible within Expeditions, with a slightly modified ruleset. Once a Slugcat is chosen, the player may configure Challenges, Missions, Perks and Burdens. Survivor and Monk are able be selected for Expedition at any time, however Hunter must be unlocked by completing the game with either of the previous two Slugcats, and the other five Slugcats are unlocked by completing their respective campaigns. Expeditions can be played with Jolly Co-Op.
